I’ve been fascinated by Hans Rosling’s seminars ever since I took an interest in analytics and statistics in my polytechnic days. He never fails to seamlessly deliver this passion of his as you can see how engaged the audience was in his videos. I believe having at least a slight awareness of this practice/term is so important in today’s context be it in whatever industry or role you’re in. With the ever-increasing demand for customization and a higher standard of services, analytics will be able to bridge that gap between businesses and consumers. I’ll recommend listening to his talks to be amazed by the power of data when manifested in the right ways.

Likewise, I’ll recommend this book named “Small Data, the tiny clues that uncover the huge trends” by Martin Lindstrom. It describes the power of small data and how we are constantly in ignorance of it despite our daily interactions with it. The issue right now is that corporations are over-relying on big data which fails to accurately convey and describe emotions. Big data may accurately describe the past and would be a great defensive measure for companies to reduce operational errors but small data would allow us to kickstart innovations by spotting trends.
